Walked down the pier road to the deep sea
It was a long confused embrace But I have seen an awesome beauty I've seen the tears run turn to wine on your face And I wondered and I trembled As you held me so close in your arms With a love that held more learning Than I could ever understand
Still the grass grows tall in the dream fields But after all is said and done The only thing that ever matters Is to love and to be loved
Viggo had arrived in New Zealand a tired but determined man. He was tired because of the insane schedule, and determined because this was probably going to be his last opportunity. This really was his ‘last chance saloon’, well near enough, Sean would be in London, but that wouldn’t be the same. He had made the decision after months of much thought and emotional turmoil whilst in New York. No matter how much he tried, there was no getting away from the fact that he loved Sean Bean. What had begun as a mutual and then deep friendship, had gradually turned into something else on Viggo’s part.
When they had worked together and become friends during their time in New Zealand it hadn’t been the right time, either for Sean or, for that matter, for Viggo. Sean, in the middle of his third divorce and Viggo, with Henry at just the wrong age for him to be making life changing decisions. Also there had been Peter’s film to consider too, both of them were far too professional to do anything that might jeopardize the films they were all so committed to.
When the cast had finally split up with the end of filming, Viggo had promised himself that he wouldn’t lose touch with the Englishman, but as usual with Viggo, art had prevailed and eventually he had lost touch really. Now only Sean made the effort, but with filming Troy this year it had been much harder even for him to keep in touch.
It had been fine to begin with, there were phone calls and cards and letters, and of course the reunions brought about by all the publicity for FotR, but gradually real, or artistic life had gotten in the way. There was painting and exhibitions and poetry and Hidalgo and Macbeth, and Henry and Lorna and Mollie and Evie. He had intended going to see Macbeth, the reviews had been amazing, but hadn’t ever made it. Yet all the time Sean had been swirling around in his head. Memories, pictures, conversations, jokes, half formed ideas, Viggo had been down this road too many times before. Too often other things had put an end to personal relationships and Viggo now realised he missed Sean too much to let that happen again. Sean, he had decided was far too important.
Despite his three marriages, Viggo knew that Sean could swing both ways, they had discussed it one night round a campfire, out in the New Zealand bush. Viggo had been surprised at Sean’s revelation. The guy had one hell of a reputation with the ladies of Hollywood, but Viggo had never heard anything about him with guys, but then that wasn’t really surprising. The idea of 007’s arch nemesis being a poofter would not go down at all well with the gray suited studio executives, who dictated the movie industry from their vast offices in tall glass and chrome towers. So Viggo had determined that this time, he was going to really give it a serious try on this, his last chance. If Sean told him to ‘fuck off’, then so be it. Viggo would be very hurt, but at least he would know and that was better than this almost painful longing he was stuck with at the moment.
The only slight problem Viggo now faced, was that he still had absolutely no idea how he was going to go about letting Sean know how he felt about him. Perhaps he could enlist Orli’s help… again. The lad had done a fine job keeping him up to date with Sean’s antics on the Troy set, so that Viggo now knew that Sean was ‘putting it about’ again, in the direction of both sexes it seemed. The more Viggo thought about it, the more enlisting Orli was looking like about the best option.
The car from the airport pulled up outside the best hotel in Wellington and several uniformed men came to open the doors and take the bags. It always amused Viggo that someone who looked as scruffy as he invariably did was treated to this kind of molly coddling at these kinds of events. Any other time and none of these people would either recognize him, or give him the time of day. Hollywood was a ridiculous industry. Viggo pulled his hat lower over his eyes and walked the short distance into the hotel foyer. The place had that quiet busy hum associated with wealthy opulence and a place used to dealing with those who could afford to pay for anything they wanted.
He started walking to the reception desk, even the wealthy have to check in, followed by his own little phalanx of porters and security men. The area was busy in a genteel kind of way, folks coming and going. All either too concentrated on their own affairs to care who he was, or too polite to say anything if they did recognize him. Viggo just kept on walking anyway, till half way across the foyer he saw him. Sean … signing something at reception, his own little bunch of ‘helpers’ standing a discreet distance away.
Viggo’s breath caught in his throat and stayed there. Fuck but the man was beautiful. All golden elegance and shy charm. Viggo wanted to run. He wasn’t ready to face him yet, but it was too late. As if sensing that he was being watched, Sean turned around and spotted his American friend. A lovely smile lit up his handsome features and he stopped whatever he was doing, signaled to the group of men who made to follow him to stay put, and crossed the foyer to Viggo.
The guy was an absolute study in contrasts. Pale, dirty blond hair and light tan complexion, contrasted with the dark sober trousers and jacket combination he was wearing. The absolute classy elegance of the expensively tailored outfit contrasted with the lovely Sheffield accent when he spoke.
“Vig!! Great to see you again mate.”
“Sean, it’s good to see you too.”
Viggo hesitated only for a second and then he took Sean’s outstretched hand and pulled him into a hug. Laughing Sean returned the embrace. Viggo held him close for far longer than was strictly necessary and for some reason the English man didn’t pull away, instead he almost molded himself to Viggo’s long lean frame. Viggo reveled in the full on body contact, but eventually he had to let go. They stepped away from each other still smiling. Viggo wanted to get lost in those green eyes, wanted to run his fingers through the fine blonde hair, but not in the foyer of the hotel. The silence although not uncomfortable was beginning to stretch too long.
“Finish checking in Sean and I’ll call you when I’m sorted, in about an hour?”
“Ok mate, I’ll be waiting.”
They walked to the reception desk together and Viggo watched Sean disappear off to the lift with his little herd of followers. The other reception clerk came to him and handed him a card with Sean’s room number on it, indicating that Mr Bean had asked that the information be passed on to Mr Mortensen.
Once in his room it didn’t take Viggo long to unpack and he began to wish he hadn’t said an hour to Sean. Having seen him again now, he was impatient to be in his company once more, even if only as an old friend. He stood on his balcony gazing out to the ocean, still pondering how on earth he was going to bring himself to say anything to Sean.
The phone in his room rang.
“Hello.”
“Hey Vig!” Orlando’s voice was warm and soft.
“Orli love, how are you?”
“Knackered, but I’ll survive.”
“Hmmm, you need to slow down a bit love.” He couldn’t resist fathering the young Brit.
“I know, I keep trying, but the work opportunities are just too good and I have to make the most of them.”
“I know love and your attitude and ethics are tremendous in this god forsaken industry, but for God’s sake Orli if you cant rest at least eat something will ya, every picture I see of you, you look thinner and thinner.”
Orlando laughed. “Hey pack it up old man, you’re supposed to be my friend not my Dad, you know.”
“I know, but I can’t help it love, I worry about you sometimes.”
Orlando huffed. “Speaking of which have you seen him yet?”
“Who?”
“Santa Claus, who do you think, you daft sod? Sean! The great love of your life, the one you had me sending you all those reports about when I was supposed to be filming Troy. You remember, tall blonde guy, very handsome, elegant, classy, great actor, far too good for you, you old git. Who the fuck did you think I meant?”
“Hey less of the old!”
Orlando giggled.
“And for your information yes I have seen him and spoken to him and hugged him and I am supposed to call him in about 15 minutes to arrange to meet up.”
“Hallebloodylujah!” The young Brit smiled into the phone. “So what you gonna do and say then?”
‘Oh bugger the lad was just too fast. Why did he have to ask?’
“To be honest I still don’t have a clue.” Viggo’s voice was quiet almost plaintive.
Orlando sighed. “Oh for fucks sake Viggo mate, you really are the end. Just take the guy out for dinner and tell him for God’s sake. This is Sean, and I for one know that he will not laugh at you, because I am sure he feels the same way. The only problem is he’s even shyer than you are. God! The pair of you want putting in a bag and shaking up. You’ve spent almost five years mooning after him Vig, now for crying out loud act will ya?”
“I have not been mooning!” Mildly outraged Viggo.
“Really, what would you call it then?”
Viggo paused Orlando was right, he knew.
“Ok, ok I guess you have a point.”
“I do, and I’m right, as usual.”
“Arrogant sod!”
“Yup that’s me. Now, do you want me to book you into that wonderful little restaurant the two of you used to love so much on the front? Then afterwards you can walk along the shore and make mad passionate love on the dunes.”
“Orli!!” Slightly scandalized Viggo. “I don’t normally fuck on the first date.”
“Vig you’ve known the guy like forever, he’s been as near to a best friend at times as you have ever had. I don’t think this counts in quite that way as a first date.”
“Yes it does if I tell him how I feel.”
Orlando sighed again. “Whatever Vig, just for God’s sake tell him ok? However, wherever, doesn’t really matter as long as you do.”
“No you’re right, I’m being a prat. Book us that table love if you don’t mind, it’s a better idea than anything I’ve had.”
Orlando smiled into the phone. “Cool, consider it booked 8-o-clock ok?”
“8-o-clock’s fine love.”
“Ok, now go ring Sean and make a date. Later Vig.”
“Later love.”
Viggo put the phone down and sighed once more to himself. ‘Come on Mortensen, you really can do this.’
He could and he did. They had a lovely dinner, truly lovely. Any awkwardness that there might have been due to Viggo’s seeming inability to keep in touch, was lost in friendship and laughter and of course serious bouts of ‘do you remember when?’
But a dinner can only last so long, and it seemed too soon for Viggo that they were standing back out on the pavement, wondering what to do with the rest of the evening.
“Walk with me Sean. Please.”
There was no way Sean could resist the quiet plea in Viggo’s voice.
“Sure, mate.” He said smiling.
The two men set off down the beach, side by side. There was a gentle breeze blowing, but it was an otherwise warm and lovely evening.
They walked in companionable silence, making Viggo realise even more reasons why he loved and valued Sean.
It didn’t take long to reach the dunes and Viggo branched off to find a comfortable hollow for them to sit in. Sean simply followed, enjoying the peace and of course the New Zealand seascape. Viggo sat himself down in the sand and Sean sat quietly at his side. He sensed that Viggo wanted to talk about something specific, so he simply waited, knowing his friend would get there eventually.
Viggo still wasn’t sure he could do this. There was a swarm of butterflies playing leapfrog in his stomach, and he was scared, plain scared. He glanced at Sean. The guy just sat quietly, he must realise by now that there was something else going on other than just a fancy dinner between two old friends who’d kinda lost touch recently. Still, he waited patiently for Viggo to get around to whatever it was he had to say.
Finally Viggo took a deep breath…
“Sean I think you probably realise by now that there was a bit more to this evening than just dinner with an old friend.”
“Well you have kinda pushed the boat out, so I figured there was something. You got something you wanna tell me mate?”
“Yeah. I suppose I have.”
Viggo paused again … the time stretching away...
Suddenly Sean turned towards Viggo, reaching out and grabbing him by the arm as he did. Viggo saw the look of fear cross the handsome features and settle in the clear green eyes.
“Vig… you’re not… you’re not sick are you. Tell me that’s not what this is about please!”
Viggo felt suddenly really guilty. Realising what he was doing, Sean let go of Viggo’s arm and withdrew his hand. Viggo was kinda sad when he did.
“God Sean, I’m sorry mate, no, that’s not what this is about. I’m fine, there’s nothing wrong with me.”
Relief showed on Sean’s face and he looked away, embarrassed at his minor outburst.
“Ok mate. Sorry I just… well yer know, I was just worried there for a minute.”
“I’m sorry Sean, I never meant to worry you.”
“I know.” Sean half laughed. “Just me being a ‘panicking Penny’.”
“Well I’m kinda flattered that you were concerned.” Viggo grinned in response.
“Jesus Vig! Of course I’d be concerned.”
“Good!” ‘Cos in a stupid way that makes what I need to say a bit easier.”
Viggo turned to face Sean and looked at him directly.
“I don’t really know how to say this Sean, but this trip, this premier is really my last chance, so I decided that I have to say something.”
Sean looked steadily at Viggo waiting patiently for him to go on.
“I don’t want you to take this wrong and feel free to tell me to fuck off and all that, if you want to. I swear it won’t make any difference to me still wanting to be friends but…” Viggo had to take another deep breath.
“When we met, it wasn’t the right time for relationships, for either of us and to be honest I valued your friendship too much to want to risk anything. And with what you were going through, I thought you needed a friend more than anything else, but now… I know I haven’t been the best at keeping in touch, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t thought about you. I haven’t been able to get you out of my head Sean. Not for years.
Sean I think… No, I’m sure, I love you.”
Viggo looked directly at Sean as he finished. The English man shifted a little uncomfortably and gazed out at the ocean. Once more the silence stretched. Viggo’s heart sank. In spite of everything, it looked as if not only had he made a huge fool of himself, but he had probably lost his best friend.
As the silence stretched even longer, Viggo became more certain that he had made a huge mistake. Sean was probably sitting trying to think of a way to let Viggo down, without being anything other than the gentleman he usually was.
“I’m sorry Sean” he whispered “I shouldn’t have said anything. I’m sorry.” He set about standing up. “Look I’ll go, leave you to get yourself together after my stupidity. Try and forget I ever mentioned anything.”
Blindly Sean reached out a hand and pulled Viggo back on to the sand. The American sat and waited, trying not to hope. Sean just held on to Viggo’s hand tightly.
When he finally turned to look at him Viggo could see the tears shimmering in the deep green eyes.
“You really mean that Vig, don’t you?” Sean said quietly.
Viggo nodded. “Yeah.”
“I… I don’t really know what to say Vig. Part of me’s hoped for a long time now that maybe one day, I would hear that from you, but I never could see how it might be possible.”
Sean paused, obviously thinking about how to say what he wanted to say next. Viggo’s hope rose a little higher.
“I think I’ve loved you from the first time I ever saw you, here in New Zealand. I think. But you’re right it was the wrong time and like you I suppose, I valued the friendship too much to ever say anything. But also, I never thought someone like you could ever want someone like me. I… I… I’m damaged goods Vig. Used, used up almost, I think now, maybe even too badly damaged. I’ve been round the marriage block three times and you know about all the rest of the reputation. Most of the rumours are true, in one form or another. I’m not sure that I’m fit for anything else, to be honest. I don’t know what it is. I’ve tried so hard Vig, each time, but each time I got chewed up and spat out and my reaction to that was… well you know what it was. I get insecure, I look for sex anywhere I can get it, women, men, young, old, they’re all the same when I’m in that frame of mind I do it to try and prove to myself I’m not the inadequate moron someone else is telling me I am. I like the flattery I suppose and I’m well aware that a good percentage of the partners are only doing it cos of the celebrity thing All that does is make every thing worse, obviously, but I never see that at the time, as you well know.
I love you Vig. I’m sure I do now, one hundred percent positive, but do you really want to risk it with me? Really?”
Viggo took Sean’s hand in both of his and brought it up to his lips, gently brushing them across the backs of the knuckles.
“Yes.” He said simply.
Blue eyes gazed deeply into green for a long moment before Sean spoke again.
“Even if the first time we have a major row I go off and shag the first pretty face I can find, or the first time we have to be apart for longer than a few weeks you start to hear about me shagging the nearest cast member ‘cos the chances are it’ll be told as a rumour, but it’ll actually be true, because that’s what I’m like Vig. That’s the real me. Orli must have told you that in all the reports he was sending you from Mexico and Malta. Oh, and then just a few weeks ago in LA for Treasure. God she ‘ad big tits that one did. Do you really want to go through all that Vig? ‘Cos you will. Oh I may not intend to do it, I never set out intending to hurt anyone. I always intend to be totally faithful and true, but somehow I just can’t seem to manage it. First sign of trouble – doesn’t even have to be trouble with the relationship. Any kind of trouble will kick it off and I go sex hunting. That’s the real me, Viggo love, that’s the real me. The rest is just a façade, a veneer, an act I put on.”
Sean looked down at their joined hands, embarrassed, shy, scared. But after coming this far tonight, Viggo wasn’t prepared to be so easily put off.
“Is it? Is it the real you? Is the man who dined and talked with me tonight an act? Is the concern I saw, less than an hour ago when you thought I might be ill, part of a façade?”
Sean looked sharply at him.
“You see Sean I don’t think it is. Oh I’m not saying the other you, isn’t you as well. I think it is and of course it worries me, but I also know the ‘other’ real Sean Bean. The gentle, caring man, who in spite of my selfishness and not keeping in touch, greeted me the way you did today, as if none of that mattered.”
“It didn’t Vig.”
“Exactly. It should have, but it didn’t, not with you. It would have with anyone else, but not with you. Yes I admit, I’m gonna be concerned when we have a row and when you go away, or when I go away, but there’s things we can do about that to make you ‘going on a sex hunt’ much less likely. We’re adults, and yes we will row, but surely we both know how to deal with anger and hurt by talking about things and communicating, not storming out and slamming doors like teenagers. I promise never to go off in a huff and lock the studio door for days at a time, if you promise never to slam out of the house and head for the nearest red light district.”
Viggo smiled a little and got a tiny one in return.
“And as far as the separation thing is concerned, well, there’s journals and e-mails and phone calls that can incorporate lovely, long bouts of phone sex, and let’s face it, if the fan comments are anything to go by, we both have perfect voices for phone sex.”
Viggo arched an eyebrow in wry question and Sean’s grin got a little wider.
“And besides I can always come with you, to stop you from straying.”
Sean opened his mouth to speak, but Viggo raised a hand to forestall him and started talking again.
“Oh I know what you’re going to say love. What about my career? Well love, I can paint, or write anywhere and make music anywhere really, and if I’m really honest that’s the career that truly interests me. I’ve made one film since rings, compare that to what you’ve done and tell me which one of us is really the career professional actor. It aint me, babe. Oh don’t get me wrong, I’m not talking about giving up acting completely, and if something comes along, then I’ll surely take it, but we can organise schedules to accommodate both of us love. Our ages and status give us the luxury of a little more control than the youngsters, like Orli and Billy and Dom can get.”
He squeezed Sean’s hand a little tighter.
“We can make it work Sean, I’m sure of it. We just have to decide that we want to take the chance and then do it.
We love each other, we’ve got as far as admitting that now and that’s probably the biggest step for two guys like us. What do you say we give ourselves a chance at some happiness? You never know you might get quite into sharing your life with a mad artist.”
Viggo paused and waited, he had given it his best shot. Now it was up to Sean.
Abruptly Sean got to his feet, pulling Viggo up with him. Still holding Viggo’s hand, he walked down to the waters edge. The moon was rising and the stars were beginning to peep out. Once they reached the waves, Sean mirrored Viggo’s earlier gesture, bringing Viggo’s hand to his lips in a gentle caress.
‘Could this work? Was Vig right? Sean wasn’t sure about things yet, but he knew Vig needed an answer and he needed it now, tonight. Sean could see how tightly wound his friend was, which was unusual for Viggo under most circumstances. He didn’t want to add to Viggo’s tension, but he needed just a little more time to really think things through.’
He looked the other man straight in the eyes.
“I need to think a minute Vig. Go sit down again, while I walk on me own, just for a bit. I won’t go far and I won’t take long, I promise you.”
Viggo nodded silently and turned to walk back to the hollow in the dunes, as Sean turned and headed along the water’s edge. He just needed to think things through. Sort out the turmoil in his guts and make sure he wasn’t about to make one of the biggest, if not the biggest mistake of his life. Viggo was so precious to him; he needed to be really sure about this.
Sean realised that his next words to Viggo, what he said, how he said it, could easily break Viggo’s heart and/or break one of the best, no the best friendship he had ever had. If not now, then in the future and he wasn’t sure that he wanted to be responsible for that kind of destruction, not now, not ever.
Oh he knew that Vig had let things slide and there had been times when Sean had had to do all the contacting, and very occasionally he had wondered why he bothered, but Viggo had laid himself on the line tonight; bared his heart and soul to Sean. Confessed his feelings honestly and openly. He had acknowledged the problems that Sean had raised and instead of dismissing them airily, he had immediately suggested ways in which they could be reduced, if not eliminated altogether. And anyway if Sean was honest, wasn’t much of his behaviour due to the fact that no matter how hard, or how many times he had tried, how many times he thought he had found his real love, the truth was that he hadn’t and the rest was really all down to that. Not that it was an excuse, but the past was the past…
After years of trying and failing, Sean had learned one absolutely key fact, that for him to succeed in a relationship he needed for his partner to have both love AND strength. He knew that Viggo had the strength; he had seen and felt it so many times during their time together in New Zealand before. Now it seemed, he had the love as well. In his previous relationships Sean had found the love yes, but not the strength. He had chosen partners who would love him, but who rarely had the nerve to really stand up to him regardless. Mel had been closest, but in the end he had totally worn her down. Vig he knew was strong, determined and stubborn. How many times when he was going through all that shit with Abbie had Vig stubbornly refused to let him do something stupid, or forced him to do something he was trying desperately to avoid? Maybe, just maybe Vig really did have the strength needed to cope with Sean. And now he knew Viggo loved him well that made all the difference in the world, but others had been strong before and he had ground them down under his onslaught of selfishness and at times plain cowardice. Sometimes it was just easier to behave like a bastard. He needed to be sure that Viggo wouldn’t be afraid to exert his strength now he had confessed that he loved Sean, because Sean needed Viggo to be the strong determined partner, the way he had been the strong determined friend.
He walked back up the beach to where Viggo was sitting. Patiently waiting as always, letting him have the time and space he needed, despite the turmoil he too must be going through. Viggo looked up at him as he stood in front of him. Sean extended his hand to pull Viggo up. He needed Viggo on his feet for this.
“Do you trust me Vig?”
Viggo answered with the only line he could.
“With my life Sean, with my life.”
Sean nodded once.
“Ok. Hit me.”
Shock, surprise, stunned amazement, all warred for possession of Viggo’s features.
He opened his mouth to speak but Sean got there first.
“Come on Vig, hit me. Not on me face please or Pete’ll kill us over tomorrow. Just hit me hard anywhere else.”
Viggo hadn’t a clue what was going on, but something told him, his doing this was essential to Sean’s decision.
He steeled himself, drew back his arm and went to punch Sean in the guts, but his nerve failed at the last minute and he pulled it, softening the blow. Sean barely flinched.
“Oh come on Vig, you can do better than that, I know you can. Hit me the way you did last time.”
Viggo remembered, he had felled Sean with a serious punch during filming here in New Zealand, when the guy’s total stubbornness over something to do with his divorce was causing him to almost self destruct. Viggo had taken shockingly direct physical action, and it had worked, bringing Sean to his senses and stopping him making a huge mistake, and making his own, and everyone else’s life hell in the process. Finally Viggo had an inkling of what was going on.
He looked back at Sean, pulled back his fist again and this time landed his punch square in Sean’s guts. The force knocked Sean backwards, and caused him to double up from the pain.
Viggo was by his side in an instant.
“Oh God Sean I’m sorry, for fucks sake man. I’m so sorry.”
Sean stood shakily, gasping hard and gently removed Viggo’s hands. Green eyes caught and held blue.
“I want you to promise me Vig, that every time I start behaving like a wanker you will hit me like that, like you did before. Promise me that no matter how much you love me, you won’t wimp out on me ever. That you’ll always take that sort of action, if that’s what’s needed to make me sit up, take notice and stop behaving like a complete prat. Promise me.”
Suddenly Viggo’s worried heart soared. Did this mean what he hoped it meant.
He held Sean’s gaze and nodded once. “I promise.”
Sean smiled at him then. One of those wonderful, full on, light up the world Sean Bean smiles.
“I love you Vig.” He said quietly.
Viggo stepped close to Sean and pulled him into his arms. Like in the hotel foyer Sean moulded himself to the other mans frame. Pressing himself as close as he possibly could. Luxuriating in being in Viggo’s arms and in being so close to the man he loved.
“I love you too Sean. And I promise to be strong, both for you, and with you, provided you promise to do just the same for me when I do the temperamental artist, activist thing.”
Sean laughed quietly. “I promise too then Vig.”
Viggo couldn’t hold back any longer. He slipped his hand around Sean’s neck and pulled his face closer. Pressing his lips against Sean’s, softly and gently to begin with, enjoying the intimacy of just that simple touch. Sean trembled in Viggo’s arms and that was Viggo’s undoing. His tongue sought entry into Sean’s mouth. It was granted without hesitation, to be greeted shyly by Sean’s own. It began as a sweet, tender kiss that confirmed all that had been said minutes before, but both men needed more, much, much more. Soon they were ravaging each other’s mouths, each in turn trying to find the centre of the universe in the back of the other’s throat.
Viggo could feel the heat of Sean’s considerable arousal through the four layers of fabric in between them. He knew Sean must be able to feel him and as much as Viggo would have loved to make love there and then on the beach, he knew they dared not take the risk.
“My room or yours?” He asked quietly.
“Whichever is the nearest.” Sean began a determined assault on his neck.
“Sean love we need to get to a hotel room.”
With a determined effort of will Sean pulled away.
“Ok.” He whispered.
Viggo laced his fingers through Sean’s and they began to make their way back along the beach. It wasn’t really that far but it felt like a twelve mile hike to Viggo such was the intensity of their need for each other. The heat that was being transmitted through their joined hands was but a minor warmth compared to the burning Viggo felt deep in his belly.
For Sean the walk seemed like the longest of his life and yet the sweetest. Yes there was a fearsome need raging between his legs and a dull ache in his belly where Viggo had hit him but he himself, the core being that was Sean was soaring with happiness. In a way he felt he could have walked hand in hand with Viggo down that beach till sunrise and beyond. He realised when he caught his glance that Viggo was looking at him a wry expression on his face.
“What are you thinking my love?”
Sean went warm and fuzzy all over; yes he supposed he was Viggo’s love now. What a blissful thought.
“That I’m the happiest man in the world right now.”
Viggo’s face lit up in a classic Mortensen shit eating smile. “I’d debate you under other circumstances, ‘cos I was thinking that was me, but I don’t want to have our first row before I’ve made love to you.”
They crossed the quiet Wellington street to the hotel holding hands and laughing into each others eyes. As a result, neither man saw a small group of 3 hobbits and an elf on a balcony overlooking the street they were crossing. All with matching shit eating grins plastered on their faces and punching the air in delight.
Viggo managed to contain himself till they arrived at Sean’s room. It had turned out that his was closest. But once they were inside Viggo couldn’t wait any longer. He pushed Sean’s jacket off his shoulders and started opening his shirt while his mouth tried to suck out Sean’s soul in a searing kiss. Sean couldn’t breathe didn’t want to breathe. Wondered if there was a way he could live the rest of his life just breathing Viggo then this would never have to stop.
Viggo however, fought for a measure of control and won, just. Taking Sean’s hand he lead him through the sitting area to the bedroom, and made sure that he had fished the condoms and lube out of his trouser pockets before he returned to the task of undressing Sean. If Sean was surprised by Viggo’s Boy Scout readiness he didn’t mention it, instead he set about the buttons on Viggo’s shirt in order to facilitate the skin to skin contact his body now craved.
Minutes later, and without any of the usual embarrassment felt when undressing for the first time with a new partner, they were both naked.
“God you’re just so beautiful Sean.” Viggo couldn’t help it. His eyes roved over every inch of Sean’s strong muscular frame, he could feel his breathing quicken just from looking at the guy. So what else was new, hadn’t that always been the case?
“Not as beautiful as you.” Sean’s gaze was shyer but none the less thorough and his cock twitched enthusiastically, applauding what it saw in its own way.
Viggo advanced on Sean, pushed him down onto the bed and lay beside him, holding him close and gently running his hands over the smooth skin of Sean’s back.
“Before we go any further Sean I have to ask, I can go either way top or bottom, which way do you want love? I don’t mind at all if you’d be happier fucking me, we’ll do whatever you’re comfortable with. I need this to be so good for you.”
Sean paused in running his own hands through the hair on Viggo’s chest. He recognised Viggo’s honest need and he recognised too a need in himself that he had never felt before.
“Normally in the past I would have always insisted on topping, but tonight, with you for the first time, I want to feel you inside me Vig. I want you to claim me, mark me, make me yours… please.” Sean looked up from under lowered lashes, vulnerable and needy; he was breathing unsteadily and trying hard to control it. Viggo thought his heart would burst with love when he saw that look. He ran his hand through the fine blonde hair, brushing it away from Sean’s face and pulled him closer.
“If that’s what you want my love, then that’s exactly what I will do.”
Will you lie back and let me love you Sean? Just for tonight, let me do all the work, and you just enjoy?”
“Please.” Sean breathed it into the air, letting the sound coalesce into the word, rather than forcing it from his throat.
He lay back against the pillows and watched as Viggo moved slowly over him. Sean could see all the love and feeling and tenderness in Viggo’s eyes, and was sure he couldn’t have done anything if he’d tried. That look was turning his body to water just by its sheer intensity.
Viggo was determined that no matter how aroused he was, he was going to make this the best first time ever for Sean.
After another of those incredibly sweet and passionate kisses he traced a trail down Sean’s neck with his tongue till he reached the juncture between neck and shoulder. Once there, he began to suckle gently at the sensitive flesh. Sean moaned quietly and squirmed a little under him. Then he let out a little yelp as Viggo’s mouth moved on, planting soft kisses along each collar bone and then all the way down the centre of Sean’s lightly tanned chest. As his mouth made its way down Viggo’s fingers made their way up, till they were teasing Sean’s nipples into even more erect peaks of pure sensitive desire. Viggo moved his mouth back up and once again suckled gently. This time on each of those rosy pink buds in turn. Sean couldn’t help it; he arched off the bed a little pushing his sensitised body into Viggo’s touch. Viggo grinned in the dim light of the bedroom and after parting Sean’s legs he settled himself over him. Laying out full length and finally bringing both their erect and needy cocks into delicious contact. Velvet on velvet. Viggo propped himself on his elbows for a minute, to just simply stop and gaze at Sean. What had been a little squirming earlier was now almost wanton writhing. Sean couldn’t keep still. Viggo’s hands and body were doing wicked things to every part of him. Every nerve ending in his body was screaming to be in contact with Viggo. Sean was moaning in the back of his throat and Viggo thought it was the most sensual sound he had ever heard. He pressed their hips together more and felt the heat from both their cocks sear the skin on his belly. Sean’s eyes had narrowed and he was breathing more rapidly. Both men were covered in a thin sheen of sweat that made their toned and tanned bodies glisten in the low bedroom light.
Viggo slid down over Sean’s body till he was lying between Sean’s spread legs. He could just see the outline of a faint bruise forming low on Sean’s belly, where he had hit him earlier. Viggo knew he should feel bad and he did, but only part of him, the other part of him wanted to worship that bruise because it had gotten him and Sean to where they were now. He ran his fingers tenderly over Sean’s stomach and down over the bruise. Sean grunted a little, and although he tried to cover it, Viggo knew that it was a little grunt of pain. He licked a delicate wet trail over the bruised flesh and then worshipped it with soft and tender open mouthed kisses, that soon had Sean forgetting all about the pain and pushing himself up into Viggo again for more caresses.
“Vig please, I need you.”
“How love, how do you need me? What do you need from me?”
“I need to feel you inside me Vig. I want to come the first time, with your cock as deep inside of me as it will go.”
Recognising the plea, Viggo nodded and began to slip his body further down the bed, pushing Sean’s legs up so that his knees were bent and Viggo could get access to where he wanted to be.
He kissed and licked a gentle path from the bruise on Sean’s belly, down around his cock to his balls and beyond, pausing only to lap up the little pool of precum that had collected in Sean’s navel. He mmmm’d appreciatively at the taste and Sean moaned as he watched Viggo lick his lips before continuing on down his body.
Finally Viggo’s mouth found its destination and his tongue flicked hotly over Sean’s puckered, pink entrance.
“Jesus! Vig!”
Sean gripped the bed sheets tightly in both fists.
Viggo continued his gentle ministrations flicking his tongue over Sean’s hole a few more times before delicately delving inside.
Sean almost screamed. This was the first time anyone had ever done that to him, and the sensation that Viggo was causing was mind blowing.
Viggo plunged his tongue in further, tasting Sean and beginning to relax the guardian muscle a little at the same time. He loved the effect this was having on the English man and vowed to himself there and then, that one day soon he would make Sean come just from rimming him. Now however, his own cock was seriously demanding attention so Viggo lifted himself up and reached for the lube.
Sean protested the removal of Viggo’s tongue till he opened his eyes and saw what Viggo was now doing. Blue eyes fastened on to green as Viggo inserted a long lubed finger gently into Sean. He waited till he felt Sean relax again and then moved the finger till he was sure Sean could happily accept a second. Sean’s face showed only absolute love and trust as Viggo carefully prepared him for what was to come. When Viggo could insert three fingers relatively easily, he decided he had to be inside Sean or burst. It took him only seconds to roll the condom over his own straining erection and slick himself up with lube. And when that was done he knelt up between Sean’s legs and lifted his hips.
“Ready my love?” He asked
Sean’s lust and love filled gaze was all he needed to see in response but Sean said “yes” anyway just to make sure he knew.
Knowing that Sean was strong and confident that he could take him completely Viggo pushed into him in one long slow steady thrust, not pausing till he was fully sheathed inside Sean’s dark, wet heat. Velvet and steel were the words that came to Viggo’s mind for the physical sensation of being inside Sean. He waited for Sean to adjust and relax again, watching the newly formed beads of sweat trickle down the side of his face and the rapid rise and fall of his chest as his lungs fought for air.
“You ok sweetheart?”
Another endearment that gave Sean the warm and fuzzies but right now he needed more. He needed Viggo to move.
“Yeah I will be if you start to move luv.”
“Look at me then please love. I need to see your face while we do this.”
Sean locked his gaze with Viggo’s, determined to maintain the eye contact all the way through, if that was what Viggo wanted. Viggo smiled and gently rocked his hips, gradually increasing the thrust, watching Sean’s face all the time to make sure that there was no hint of pain. A little more and a very slight adjustment of angle and… Sean screamed. Viggo was stroking over his prostate with each thrust, sending electric pins and needles of incredible sensation all through Sean’s body. He arched up off the bed as Viggo leaned over him bringing their bodies into fuller contact.
“More Vig please, fuck me! Fuck me hard, make me yours!”
Viggo was nothing if not obliging.
“I will, my love. I will.”
He braced himself and began to thrust deeply and smoothly and rhythmically into Sean. Each stroke hitting the mark and making Sean writhe and moan, incoherent with pleasure and need. Once the rhythm was set Viggo reached down and took Sean’s cock in his large, rough, artists hand and pumped it in time with his thrusts. Sean bucked his hips wildly and Viggo felt the rhythm falter as his orgasm began to build from a fire burning low in his belly, to an eruption of volcanic proportions deep inside Sean. He screamed Sean’s name as he came, and felt Sean’s muscles clamp down on him milking his cock deep inside as Sean’s pearly, white hot essence spilled over his hand and splashed on to both of them.
Viggo couldn’t hold himself up any longer. He collapsed, in a boneless heap on top of Sean and felt his lover’s arms come round him holding him close and tight. They rode out the aftershocks of orgasm locked together in a firm embrace, and as the storm began to subside Sean found Viggo’s lips for a deep and tender, heart rending kiss.
When they had both settled a little Viggo got up and retrieved a wash cloth from the bathroom and then gently cleaned both of them up, gently brushing away Sean’s attempts to help. This too was something he wanted to do for Sean.
When he returned from the bathroom he saw that Sean was watching him with eyes that shimmered with tears. He lay down again and pulled Sean close.
“Tears love?”
“Yeah but tears of happiness.” And Viggo smiled.
They snuggled down, contentedly wrapped in each other’s arms. Viggo’s final thought was of how fitting it was that they should start their new life together here, in Middle Earth, where they had first met so long ago. The wheel had come full circle. He kissed Sean gently once more and together they drifted off to sleep, as the New Zealand sun rose on the day of the Wellington premier of The Return of the King.
Still the grass grows tall in the dream fields But after all is said and done The only thing that ever matters Is to love and to be loved
